Custom decks & lānai · Kona, Hawaiʻi Island

Built like it has to survive an Alaska winter.
Finished for Kona sunsets.

What we build

Outdoor space you'll actually live on.

In Kona, the lānai is half the house. Morning coffee, a family dinner, watching the sun drop behind the water. We build the place it all happens.

New decks & lānai

Ground-level, raised or multi-level. Designed around your view, your slope and how you want to use the space.

Stairs & railings

Solid stairs down the hillside and railings that keep little ones safe without blocking the ocean.

Shade & pergolas

Pergolas and covers that take the edge off the afternoon sun, built to stand up to the wind.

Repairs & rebuilds

Soft boards, rusted hardware, termite damage, wobbly rails. We'll tell you honestly whether to repair or rebuild.

Built for the island

Sun, salt, termites and lava rock. We plan for all of it.

A deck that would last thirty years on the mainland can fail in ten here. The difference is in choices most people never see.

  • Corrosion-resistant hardware. Stainless or properly coated fasteners and connectors, because salt air eats ordinary steel.
  • Termite-smart materials. Treated framing rated for the job, plus composite or tropical hardwood decking where it makes sense.
  • Footings that suit the ground. Lava rock, cinder and slopes each need their own approach.
  • Boards that stay cool underfoot. We'll walk you through which surfaces get too hot in full afternoon sun.

Why Reign

From Alaska to Kona, the standard didn't change.

Reign grew up in Alaska, where a deck has to carry snow, shrug off freeze and thaw, and still be standing when spring comes. He spent eight years as a foreman building decks year-round, running crews, reading plans and owning the quality of every job.

He brought that same work ethic to the Big Island. You won't be handed off to a stranger. The person who measures your site is the person who builds it.

Build it right. Build it once. Leave the place cleaner than we found it.

Build your own deck

Design your deck in a few easy steps.

No construction know-how needed. Pick what you like, watch the drawing update as you go, then send your design to Reign. Nothing here is a price — Reign quotes every deck after seeing the site.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. Walk the site

We meet at your place, look at the ground, the view and the sun, and hear how you want to use the space.

  2. Design & estimate

You get a simple plan, material options and a written price you can actually compare.

  3. Build

Permits where they're needed, a clear schedule, and a tidy job site every day.

  4. Walkthrough

We go over every board together and show you how to keep it looking good for years.

Good questions

Before you call.

Every site is different, so the honest answer to most of these is “let's take a look.” Here's the general picture.

Where do you work?

Kona and the surrounding west side of Hawaiʻi Island. If you're a little further out, ask anyway.

Wood or composite?

Both have a place here. Hardwoods look and feel beautiful but need regular oiling in the sun. Composite costs more up front and asks for very little after. We'll lay out the trade-offs for your spot.

How long does a deck take?

It depends on size, permits and materials on island. You'll get a realistic timeline with your estimate, not a guess to win the job.

Do I need a permit?

Many decks in Hawaiʻi County do, especially raised ones. We'll tell you what applies to your project and help you through it.

Can you fix my old deck instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. We'll check the framing and footings first. If the bones are good, a repair or resurface can save you real money.
